Muncie loses 18 teachers so far

MUNCIE - Seventeen non-permanent teachers were laid off and one semi-permanent teaching contract was canceled at Tuesday's Muncie Community Schools Board meeting.
The layoffs are a direct effect of the loss of about $1.6 million in state funding for next school year. In March, Supt. Marlin Creasy announced a seven-percent staff cut to help the district meet the budget shortfall. To soften the blow to schools, the state has given local school boards authority to raise local property taxes. If that were to happen, Muncie Schools would lose less than $1 million, Creasy said."
