Letter From Sen. Chuck Schumer

Dear Carl,

*Sen. Chuck Schumer
Chairman, DSCC*

In politics, it's all about momentum. Americans love to go with a
winner. And now - *thanks to you - we have the momentum and public
opinion is tipping our way.

I have been so energized by the tens of thousands of you who joined the
DSCC to show Bill Frist and the rest of the Senate Republicans that
whenever they pander to the far right, we will be there to make sure
their actions do not go unnoticed.

When Bill Frist joined that absurd Family Research Council telecast that
labeled Democratic judicial filibusters as "against people of faith," I
was outraged, but *more than 25,000 of you* told the Republican leader
to stop using religion to divide us and score cheap political points.
You forced Frist to back off from this kind of rhetoric, even if he is
too beholden to these right wing leaders to cancel his appearance entirely.

When Pat Robertson went on national TV and called the patriotic
Americans who serve on our federal courts a greater threat to this
country than the mass murderers in Al Qaeda, I was simply disgusted, but
*more than 10,000 of you responded in less than 24 hours to* tell the
Senate Republicans - Robertson's ideological allies - that this kind of
offensive and hateful rhetoric was unacceptable and that they needed to
immediately denounce it. Senate Republicans do not have the courage to
stand up to these far right wing extremists, but don't worry. We will
hold them accountable to the voters in November 2006.

The latest opinion polls show that *the public opposes the so-called
"nuclear option" *by a margin of 2-to-1. It's still a long way to
Election Day, but we've made a lot of progress so far and I know that
you'll be there every step of the way between now and then. Thank you
so much for your commitment.

Every day, I take your message to the Senate and I tell our Democratic
caucus about the tens of thousands of Americans who stand with us
against a right wing takeover of our federal courts and even the Senate
itself. I have been absolutely stunned by the massive outpouring of
support I have seen from committed Democrats just like you. Now I know
that we have to keep the Democrats together because I don't want to let
you down.

Senate Democrats are the last line of defense against the right wing's
court packing scheme. When tens of thousands of Americans like you have
my back during the toughest fights, my job is easy. *Thank you again
for your steadfast support.*

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
